NEW CONSTRUCTION
Homeownership Program

A rent to own program for the construction of new, single family homes located within the Cherokee Nation.

Eligibility

    • Applicant must be a Cherokee Nation Tribal Citizen.
    • Applicant's must not currently own a home or their home must be in substandard condition. For the purposes of this program, a single wide mobile home would be considered sub-standard. A home inspection is required.
    • Preference is given to Cherokee families who own land that is suitable for new home construction and can be deeded to HACN.
    • Other eligibility requirements apply according to the New Construction Homeownership Program Policy.

    The term of the New Home Constuction rent-to-own agreement shall be 30 years unless a shorter term is agreed upon between all parties. The monthly payment includes all costs for real estate taxes and home insurance. The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation owns the property during the rent-to-own agreement period, thereby making it eligible for tax incentives to schools. When the home is paid in full, HACN deeds the home to the family.
