The Mortgage Assistance Program is a down payment assistance program created to help low to moderate income Cherokee families become first-time homeowners.
The Mortgage Assistance Program helps Cherokee Nation families identify and remove barriers to homeownership, build and improve their credit, and create a financial plan to ensure success. The program educates potential homeowners about home buying and home ownership issues, maximizing their ability to obtain, maintain, and retain a home. The Cherokee Nation provides qualified Cherokee Nation citizens with up to $20,000 in down payment and closing costs assistance for a home located within Cherokee Nation’s jurisdictional boundaries. Applicants must obtain non-predatory home mortgage financing through an approved lender. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as they begin considering the possibility of home ownership.
The Mortgage Assistance Program is administered by the Cherokee Nation Commerce Services Department. Please contact them for more information at 918.453.5536, or email sbac@cherokee.org. Additional information is also available on the Commerce Services website.
